How to Pack for a Golf Trip

Updated: May 15, 2023

So you’re going on a golf trip. Congratulations on taking the plunge, you won’t regret it.

By now you’ve booked your flight and secured your tee times. If you’re reading this, you’re in that ambiguous timeframe of the pre-trip jitters and traveling to the airport. I hope this blog provides some direction before your big trip. By the way, I’m so excited for you!

I’m not calling myself an expert, but my Delta SkyMiles status has changed since attending a few FTL Golf Getaways, so allow me to share my pointers. I strive to be an efficient packer for golf trips, and I wish you the same. Let’s go!

Basics:

  • Use the number of days that golf is being played on your trip to inform how many golf shirts and skirts (or pants) you need to pack

  • If you don’t have a golf travel bag yet, you must buy one before you fly. I am a fan of the collegiate club glove bag

  • Bonus points for buying a golf bag that isn’t black. stand out from the others at baggage claim!

  • If you’re flying somewhere remote or it requires connecting flights, Ship Sticks is a good option.[. I used Ship Sticks for Bandon Dunes travel and what you pay for is peace of mind and convenience (worth every penny)

  • Put your cosmetic bag in your golf bag so that TSA doesn’t take your sunscreen when you’re going through security (this comes from recent personal experience)

  • Bring your rangefinder charger and speaker charger on the trip! A vibe curator if you will.

Pack extra of these items:

  • Socks

  • Sports Bras

  • Underwear

  • Golf Shoes: Your girl has sensitive feet. Having the option of being able to change into an extra pair of golf shoes is better than wishing you had an extra pair of golf shoes

  • Sunscreen. And put it in your golf bag, and not your carry on. Woof … my mistake.

  • Cash

  • Band Aids

Don’t overpack these items: :

  • Non-golf related clothes

  • Other shoes or high heels (babe you’re not in the clurb, you just played 18-36 holes, and everyone is here on their own trip with their sweaty friends … you don’t need them)

  • Jeans

  • Hats (you’ll end up buying something new in the pro shop … trust me)

Advanced Placement (AP) Packing:

  • Fold your clothes like Marie Kondo. She creates space; what a hero

  • I once watched my friend Kristen take a extra golf towel and wrap it around a few clubs for extra cushion

  • Use a shoe bag

  • Remember when I said to bring extra socks? Put a pair in your golf bag if you need to change into them at the turn

  • For the trip home, use the outsidepockets of your golf travel bag for your dirty socks, golf clothes, etc. It’s a great way to cram your dirty items without giving a damn. , Plus, you create extra space in your golf travel bag to add the items you bought in the pro shop. Remember when I told you you’d buy a new golf hat?

Follow these packing suggestions and you’ll be off to shooting even par in no time. And to quote our friends from @bucketlistproshopper, “Remember: golf hard, pro shop harder”
